A completely different and enchanting perspective on the vibrant underwater world of the Sea of Cortez.

What It’s Like to Go Night Diving in Cabo San Lucas ?

If you’ve experienced diving during the day, imagine seeing the ocean in a completely different light — or rather, with almost no light at all. Night diving in Cabo San Lucas is an extraordinary experience, revealing the hidden lives of the ocean’s inhabitants and providing a truly unique adventure you should try.

The Ocean Comes Alive at Night
As the sun sets, a new cast of marine creatures emerges, transforming familiar daytime dive sites into a complete different world. Expect to see octopus, spiny lobster, sleepy lobster, hunting moray eels, sleeping parrotfish, blooming corals, bioluminescent plankton, and more.

Changed Perspective
Guided by a powerful dive torch that illuminates your surroundings in a narrow beam. Everything outside your light stays in shadow, forcing you to slow down and focus on intricate details. Night diving bring mystery, reveal colors and textures that are often muted by daylight.

Calm and Quiet
There’s a peacefulness to night diving — fewer boats, less current, and almost no distractions. It’s perfect for divers looking to reconnect with the ocean. The dive concluded, the night sky blazes with stars.

Is It Safe?
Absolutely. With proper guidance and a small-group setup, night diving is both thrilling and safe. At Hammerhead Divers, we provide full briefings, top gear, and certified instructors for every night dive.

Recommendations for a Night Dive:

  • Certification: You must be an Open Water Diver certified. We only recommend you to do a check-up dive with us preview to the night dive to check out your gear and buoyancy or book the tour with a private guide.

  • Lights: Always carry a primary dive light and a backup (available in rental).

  • Communication: Night diving requires adapted communication signals using your light. Our dive guides will make a proper briefing to familiarize you with the way to communicate underwater.

  • Buddy System: Stick close to your buddy and your dive guide in all time.

  • Dive site: Choose a safe dive site, away from current or surge, that you previously dive during the day such as Pelican Rock.
